Nature tours

The Western Cape north of Cape Town is in the spring (September!) covered with colourful flower blankets. The west coast has many small and remote fishing villages. Here you will find the ‘West Coast National Park’, a protected nature reserve of almost 25 hectares.

The area around Hermanus (located some 170 km from Cape Town on the southern coast) has been recognized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as one of the top locations for spotting whales in the period between July and November.

The south coast from Mossel Bay (400 km from Cape Town) to Port Elizabeth is also called the 'Garden Route'. This coastline includes magnificent mountains, rivers, lagoons, lakes, beaches and native forests of the Tsitsikamma National Park.

The Cape Winelands, east of Cape Town, is known as an area for fruit cultivation and wine production. The Mediterranean climate produces mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers. The landscape is dominated by beautiful rolling green landscapes and spectacular views.

Following the N1 from Cape Town you will enter Touws River after 180 km, the start of the 'Karoo'. From here the road to Beaufort West (300 km) will lead you through a dry, arid and desolate area with sparse vegetation. The average annual rainfall here is less than 200 mm.

The area between the Karoo and the south coast is called "Little Karoo". Miles of unpaved roads run through mighty mountains. Here you will find the country's most famous mountain passes. It is a geologically interesting area, with incredible rock formations. Around Oudtshoorn you will find caves with fairy-tale like stalactite formations. They are considered to be one of South Africa's greatest natural wonders.
